New York City Native and Barcelona-based Max Rippon or “Max Ripo” is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores the impact and nuances of textual communication through language, forms, and symbols. Ripo received his BFA from Washington University in St. Louis. His combined love of painting, drawing, printmaking, calligraphy, graffiti, sign painting, and new digital fabrication techniques, is explored in the public space as well as his studio practice. Ripo’s work has been shown internationally in solo exhibitions in San Francisco, Barcelona, Cologne, Brussels, and London, and in curated group shows from New York City to Romania. His murals and other public works grace cities, remote villages, and abandoned structures across 36 countries in three continents. Ripo visited Rochester during “Writes of Spring” and painted a large wall with strips of different text at Atlantic and Greenleaf Streets.
