Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn are a Baltimore based artist team striving to transform public spaces into a colorful and vibrant experience. They have been collaborating since 2001 and can now finish each others sentences. They have participated in several street art shows, including Baltimore’s Open Walls and Atlanta’s Living Walls Conference. Their dynamic paintings often incorporate recycled materials and break traditional mural boundaries of space, spilling onto the ground. Their aesthetic is inspired by board games, patterns in nature, woven textiles, parades, and bold color combinations. To them, painting in public is an interactive performance and a way to get to know the surrounding community. As part of the can collective, they are the recent recipients of the PNC Transformative Art Project Grant, which enables them to continue working with communities.
