International street artist Above was born and raised in California, and began tagging “Above” on freight trains in 1995. At age 19, he moved to Paris, where he began painting his trademark upward-pointing arrow icon. He is now known for his multi-layer, full-color, social and political stencils; kinetic wooden arrow-shaped art installations; and large, text-based painted murals. Since 2001, Above has traveled the world, painting artworks in the streets of more than 100 cities, in more than 60 countries. In September of 2014 Above came to Rochester to paint “Diamonds,” a series of boldly hued, overlapping arrows on a wall at Railroad Street near the Public Market.
